EWWWW

So we were told to watch this video about Pink Slime
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wshlnRWnf30&feature=youtu.be

At first, I seriously thought there was going to be literal slime in the food but what it turned out to be was so much more interesting. The way that they make this disgusting meat clean by using chemicals that can kill us is revolting. I was just so appalled by the process and the way companies will do anything to make more money. Even if it includes making adults and children eat dog food.

Disgusting.

Here comes a doozy....

I kinda want to write a little about this past week.

So I'm Catholic and Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, signalling the beginning the start of the Lenten season. I wore my ashes proudly on that day, whether it was at the store or even at my work. All day. I had a lot of people ask me what are those for, what do they symbolize and what did I give up? I know a lot of people aren't religious at all and that's fine but it sad to know that most don't know about any religions and then get the wrong perspective or answers to these questions.

But I feel like there are just so many people who get the wrong idea's about religion, whether it be Christianity or Catholicism because of the media. I have so many people ask me about the cross I wear on my neck. Last week someone asked my best friend what hers was for and she said she wore it because she was Catholic. He responded by saying, "oh most people say, I wear it just because."

It's sad to think that a lot of people I know have no regard for religion and that is to each their own, no judgement from me at all but I have had so many tell me that Catholics push their opinions onto others and they don't like it. I don't go around telling people they are sinners and that they should go to church and become a holier person. I am not walking around telling others they are going to hell or that they have broken values because we don't share the same opinions. Well I think it doesn't really matter what religion you are, you believe in what you believe in. I know a lot of people who are against major subjects such as homosexuality rights and abortions rights and they aren't religious. I am never ashamed to say I am 100% fully against abortion and that it should be illegal but I felt this way before I became Catholic.

Another major topic is marriage. A lot of politicians are now stuck because they find themselves in a bind about whether or not homosexual people should be allowed the right to marry. Most politicians claim to be Christian and Catholic and what baffles me is the people who claim to be apart of something and then not listen to the teachings. It like saying "oh I'm a vegetarian but I'm going to eat a burger today because I can."

It's hypocritical. And annoying.

For Our Own Diet (I.E.,Food)

So after watching the movie in class, I seriously contemplated returning to vegetarianism. I only stopped being a vegetarian because I went to college and it would have been very expensive and I wouldn't have been able to afford it then. I couldn't help but react to the images of the animals, so much so that I couldn't watch the whole thing, but instead put my hands over my eyes or put my head down. I  don't know why I couldn't have been blessed with being able to not care about who or what I was eating like some other people and clearly the people on the video who can kick innocent animals. I always thought the PETA company was always doing a good job but no one seems to care about animals as much as they care about themselves.
I'm not angry as much as puzzled as to why other Americans don't know as much if they don't watch movies and clips like this. I had never seen this movie, I have only seen Super Size Me and that was all about one specific company, McDonalds. The radio and television programs never have shows on about this subject unless you are watching or listening to a specific documentary. I'm not surprised but definitely angry about all these "people" who run these corporations don't care at all about the consumer or what happens when they don't follow regulation. The story of the boy who died in 11 days and the lawsuit in progress is explanation enough. I always have heard or suspected the federal governments play in our big businesses. It always seems where there is money, the feds are knocking at the door with a big basket of goodies.

Onto the vegetable portion of the video, I was VERY surprised to see that corn makes so so so so so SO many products. I am going to be looking at the labels in the supermarket now to see if there is corn in everything I buy. I mean this has nothing to do with the movie but it must be related to how much people know what is in their food and how they must be eating too much starch and carbohydrates everyday which relates to obesity. We don't need to be eating all these starches and breads and then vegetables and fruits not be in our diets. The way these companies make all of this just a product and how our food is being made like it is something we use, in a factory, is disturbing. They are engineering our food and that is certainly not a word I associate with food.
I didn't really pay attention to the environmental aspect of the food industry but I know it plays a large role on how our earth is being effected and if they changed some things, it would greatly affect how we live in multiple ways.
I do not like the idea of all those bacteria and germs in our food one bit. Thousands of people have died from diseases and bacterial fungus' that have  arisen from food companies not caring about all the regulations. It is truly disgusting and scary to think that one day you could be perfectly fine and the next you could be gone.
It may seem easier to not care and just be ignorant about what we are ingesting into our own bodies but it isn't. I know a lot of people who are so "health"conscious and care so much about being fit but I wonder if they know all of the things about the "organic products" and if they really know how healthy they are truly being. This whole video has made me never want to eat fast food ever again and never eat meat that isn't free range. I'm still contemplating returning to no meat at all but for now, I will just have to throw my conscious away and eat one of those baby pigs and chicks. :(

Ok, so I'm not really sure what to write about this week for my self generated post.

I seriously have no idea.

I could talk about how life's going lately but I don't really want to hah.

Ok so I've been writing this technology paper and I have gotten stuck so many times. It seriously is just writers block all day long. I am surrounded by technology all day long, whether I'm at work or I'm looking at my cellphone, or on the computer. It's seriously all around me and I feel like my paper is just terrible.

I'm probably going to do more writing and editing tonight. I seriously think it's horrible but I can't make my style any better because the style you write in is influenced by who you are. I feel like my writing reflects on how I would tell a story in person or through an email.

Anyways, I better get back to it!!!

Feb.12.
Just noticed I never posted this but it's ok....

Computers are out to get us all FAT!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1BQPV-iCkU

I saw this movie a long time ago when I didn't really care about the future as much as I do now. I watched a clip from this movie a couple weeks ago and had the same reaction then as I did tonight. This movie hits the whole human condition right on point. I wasn't surprised with what I saw when I watched it the first time. If we let technology take over us like they did, then that is what will inevitably happen. What sticks with me is what happens when the people on the chairs aren't looking at their screens and what they actually see. I think what Pixar was trying to do was send a message about the present times and how reliant we are on our computers and cell phones but really it only reflects us to a point. Yes, we use technology for just about everything but technology does send the messages that we put out there. Every time I get onto my tumblr, I see some fitness workout picture for motivation or healthy food recipes. So technology can't be all bad.

What I want to focus on is the fact as soon as the computer said to go to blue, everyone just pressed a button and just did it. The influence that the machine controlling all of them was just crazy. Simon says to a maximum! And the road system they seemed to have and when the John character fell off his moving chair, the robots didn't help him, they just told him to wait. It was Wall-E who helped him. Human compassion, which they seemed to have put into Wall-E's character, is so much better than a screen.

14 billion years ago

A show I am a bit obsessed with at the moment.
My father got the first 4 seasons for Christmas and now that I basically am home all the time (no car atm) I am rendered helpless to getting anywhere and so I lose time by watching this.
You know, when my English homework is all done that is.

Anyways, I highly recommend you watch it. It's hilarious in a way that it doesn't kill your brain cells after watching a few seconds and you could learn something.

Big Bang!

Entry #2: Do they really know?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMcfrLYDm2U

I actually was thinking about the video we watched in class and decided that I would talk about that right now. The video above though, is not the original one we watched in class. It is now, the one from June 2007 and I feel that these videos are complete crap.

I watched the entire eight minutes and however many seconds and saw the same "statistics and information" spilled out to me as the one watched in class. The only difference? The years that which all this new information and technology would be exceeding our brain knowledge. They are the same numbers of  new born children, the same numbers of college graduates, that China will be the #1 English speaking country in a "few years."

I would like to use different phrasing on how I say all this info is crap, but it's not professional. I have learned in the stats classes I have taken that most of the information that companies and people come up with are made up or use a small sample to talk about a lot of people; i.e. a population.

I am quite saddened by the fact that people actually believe these things.
